Issue Notice:
- Amarapura is located south of Mandalay between the Irrawaddy River and Taungthaman Lake.
- It became the royal capital under King Bodawpaya in 1781 after Sagaing and Innwa were abandoned.
- From 1823 to 1841, Amarapura lost that status back to Innwa, but became the capital again under King Mindon until 1857 when Mandalay was finally granted status as the capital of the kingdom.
