Issue Notice:
- His Royal Highness Prince Narisaranuvattiwongse was the son of His Majesty King Mongkut, Rama IV of the Royal House of Chakri, and Princess Bamarai. He was born on 28th April 1863 and was named His Highness Prince Chitcharoen. He was educated in the Royal Court and was given military training at the School of Royal Cadets. After graduation, he was commissioned as a Royal Guard. During the reign of King Rama V, he was appointed the Minister of Public Works, Minister of the Royal Treasury, Minister of Defense, Minister of the Royal Court, Commander in Chief of Military Logistics, and'Commander in Chief of the Navy. Towards the end of the reign, he resigned from official duties due to ill health. During the reign of King Rama VII, he was appointed a Privy Counselor. The highest royal honour was when he was appointed the Supreme Regent during King Rama VII's absence abroad for health reasons. H.R.H. Prince Naris had shown intense interest in art and music since early childhood. During the formative years, he trained himself to become an artist by observing the professional artists who had come to work at the Grand Palace and the Royal Chapel. The outcome of his natural ingenuity in art was that he became the premier artist/designer in the court of King Rama V and the subsequent reigns until his death. All of his designs were highly creative and innovative, exhibiting great sensitivity to both the traditional and the increasingly influential Westem styles of Art. He left an amazing legacy of a huge collection of art works of various disciplines from architecture through mural paintings to musical compositions and dance drama libretti. His most famous architectural design was the Ubosoth or Consecrated Hall of Wat Benjamabopit (The Marble Temple). His ageless musical composition was the song "Khmer Sai Yok", now performed by almost every music ensemble on every occasion all over the country. H.R.H. Prince Narisaranuvattiwongse passed away on 10" March 1947. On the anniversary of his 100" birthday, UNESCO enlisted his name as a World Personage.
